Wakoen (和光園) Blue-and-White Landscape Yunomi Teacup

THB 39

A small Japanese-style porcelain yunomi marked Wakoen (和光園) to the underside. The cup has a straight cylindrical profile and a low ring foot, decorated in cobalt blue on white with a framed mountain-and-water landscape, floral scrollwork, geometric reserves, and blue rim and foot bands. It is likely a commercially produced Japanese-market tea cup from a set rather than a one-off studio work. The apparent exterior hairline line should be examined before sale or use with hot liquid; maker, kiln, exact origin, technique, and date remain tentative.

Object details

Condition
Fair
Glossy glaze and decoration remain generally bright in the photographed areas. A long, fine vertical line running from the rim down the exterior at the right side of the side-view photograph appears consistent with a hairline crack, though a strong reflected highlight cannot be fully excluded from the image alone. No rim chip is clearly visible in the supplied views.
Noted imperfections
Possible long exterior hairline crack, rim to lower body, visible in one photograph; confirmation by close inspection under raking light is required.
Origin
Japan, probable as a Japanese-market Wakoen (和光園) product; the specific production town or kiln is not established from these photographs.
Kiln / maker
Wakoen / Wakōen (和光園) brand mark. Some market listings associate Wakoen tableware with Daiichi Toki Co., Ltd. (第一陶器), but that connection is not proven for this specific cup.
Estimated era
Late 20th to early 21st century, tentatively circa 1970–2005
